After discovering that Companies House was forcing dormant companies to file using software, and having a dormant company himself, he felt that having to buy accounting software just to file dormant company accounts would be annoying and expensive - so he set up Aardvark Dormant Accounts to provide provide a fast, simple online filing solution for UK dormant companies.

Because by definition a dormant company hasn’t done anything, the balance sheet for the new accounts will be the same as the previous year.

So the goal was simple - to create a secure, reliable system to read last year’s accounts, rolling over the balance sheet - and produce the new accounts.

In reality, as always, the task has been more challenging. It has turned out to be like Donald Rumsfeld’s classic expression about “known knowns, known unknowns and unknown unknowns” - and in this case, there were a lot of “unknown unknowns” involved!

But after a lot of effort, we are pleased with the result. As you use the tool, we hope you appreciate it too, and that it makes your filing process effortless. There is always more to do, so your feedback is always appreciated (via our contact page).

A Short Note on Limitations

We've had to limit the scope of the tool to make it work, and so in some cases, we won't be able to file your accounts for you. But we have tried to make it clear when this is the case, and to explain why. In those cases you will need to find more advanced software (or use an accountant) to help you file. At the moment we can only support UK limited companies, and we are not able to support LLPs or CICs (community interest companies). If your company has something 'unusual' about it, for example a filing with Companies House such as a winding up, or a change of name, then we may not be able to support it either.
